Restoration Work

Below is a small selection of some of my work

Historic Farmhouse Window Restoration in Jevington

I recently restored this farmhouse window in Jevington. A historic location mentioned in The Domesday Book. This carefully crafted restoration included replacing the damaged headpiece and sills with durable hardwood and high-quality resin to ensure longevity and maintain the window's traditional charm.

To protect against rising damp, the sub-sill received a full coating of bitumen, while the underside was finished with aluminum paint for added resilience. I also reinstalled the casement windows with new stainless steel ball-bearing hinges, enhancing both functionality and preservation of this beautiful, historic feature.

Bay Window

The client had previously received costly quotes from joinery companies to replace the entire bay window and large sections of its structure.

By applying specialised restoration techniques, I was able to save the client thousands of pounds, preserving the window’s charm and function without the need for full replacement.

Sash Windows

These two separate sash windows were restored by inserting new hardwood bottom rails, as well as repairing the mullion rails and stiles, and reinforcing the box sash with hardwood and resin. A wood preservative was applied to ensure durability, and the cords and pulleys were fully replaced for smooth operation.

Window Cills

My approach to these window cills was a classic "repair, not replace" solution, preserving both character and function without the need for costly replacements. I removed any areas affected by rot and carefully spliced in durable hardwood with flexible resin; ensuring a solid, long-lasting foundation. To complete the restoration, multiple coats of flexible paint were applied, providing a resilient, weather-resistant finish that enhances both the appearance and durability of the window cills.

Decking

This decking restoration project focused on strengthening the structure and extending its longevity. I reinforced the framework to ensure structural integrity, applying quality wood preservatives and bitumen coatings for enhanced durability and protection against the elements. For the structural repairs, treated (tanalised) wood was used, providing a solid and resilient base. Additionally, sections of the decking itself were reused, crafted from beautiful American cedar, to bring it back to its original charm.

Please note: the client opted to complete the finishing and coating of the wood themselves.

Pediment

This restoration took place on an old farmhouse, where the pediment required significant repairs. The client had initially been advised to use a joinery company, facing high costs and a lengthy waiting period. Instead, the repairs were carried out in situ, working under a gazebo and tarpaulin in the client’s front garden, saving them thousands of pounds and avoiding unnecessary inconvenience.

To enhance durability and weatherproofing, integral rubber seals were applied into the door for weather sealing and suitable paints to complete the decorative finish.

Garage Doors

The client initially thought their only options were to replace their garage doors with unattractive uPVC or invest in costly repairs from a joinery company. However, I was able to restore the doors in-situ under my trusty gazebo, saving the client both time and money. This approach allowed me to maintain the doors' original character and integrity without the hassle of a full replacement.

Window Cill and Frame

For this job, the window cills and frames were carefully repaired rather than replaced, preserving their character and function. Rot-affected areas were removed and replaced with durable hardwood and flexible resin, ensuring a solid, long-lasting foundation. Finally, multiple coats of flexible paint were applied to deliver a weather-resistant, durable finish.

Sash Window and Cill

These two individual sash windows, part of a Grade II listed building, underwent careful restoration. New hardwood bottom rails were installed, while the mullion rails and stiles were expertly repaired. The box sash was reinforced using hardwood and resin for added strength. To enhance longevity, a wood preservative was applied, and the cords and pulleys were completely replaced to ensure smooth and reliable operation.

Porch

The owners of this porch were just about to replace these patio doors with new doors and windows that were set to be very costly, they reached out to me as an alternative and were bowled over by the incredible results and affordability! I carefully removed any areas affected by rot and replaced them with durable hardwood and resin, ensuring a solid, long-lasting foundation. To complete the restoration I applied multiple coats of flexible paint, providing a resilient, weather-resistant finish that enhances both the appearance and durability of the porch.
